Christmas was slightly different this year. It was our turn to have Mary Lou’s side of the family for Christmas Brunch. Thinking we did not have enough room at our condo, where we live, for 20 plus people we had our Christmas brunch at our condo garage. We actually own two condo garages. They are located in Houlton, Wisconsin, one mile away from our Sillwater, MN condo. These garages are not your typical garage that you think of. They are 45’ long, 25’ wide and 16’ tall. They have sheetrocked and painted walls, lights, heat and ceiling fans. We own them in the same way you own a condominium. One garage houses our motorhome. One half of this garage is carpeted with two couches, several chairs, a TV, refrigerator and book shelves.
We have art pictures on the walls. It actually looks very nice, for a garage that is. In the other garage we have our motorcycle trailer and motorcycles, Pete’s summer car, and some miscellaneous items we could not get rid of when we moved (the kids have to have something to go through some day). We had the brunch on Saturday the 22nd of December. We had large amounts of food, thanks to all who attended. We played games, shook dice for $1.00 gifts and opened Christmas presents. We even had a fire going on the DVD. The karaoke was the only thing that did not go over very well.Lill and Ross hosted Christmas Eve again this year for the Linder’s. The ham and all the food was delicious as usual. After opening gifts the guitars came out and singing of Christmas songs followed.
When we heard predictions of a snowstorm coming in early Christmas morning we decided to leave on Christmas Eve. We left our garage at 10:00 p.m. We took turns every hour with the driving until we got to a place that had no snow. It was about 7 a.m. and we stopped and slept for several hours. Even though we did not drive through a snow storm our coach got very dirty. We stopped at a truck stop in Georgia to have it washed. There were about 10 young men who hand washed the coach, the car and our bicycles on the back of the car for $64.00. Yes!! $64.00 what a deal.
We arrived at our destination in Davenport, Florida on Thursday. We did not expect the warm 80’s weather. That lasted until yesterday, Wednesday the 2nd, when it started getting cold. Last night it got into the low 30’s. So in just a
week we have experienced the warmest and the coldest for this time of the year. Lucky us!Yesterday we had an interview at Disney World. I worked in Human Resources for 21 years but I have not been on the receiving end of an interview for that length of time. We laughed before we went about getting interviewed by a 19 year old person. He was not 19, maybe 20 - no, I think he was probably 30 and he actually did an excellent job. Anyway it was a fun experience.
I think it went well. However, we were told don't call us we will call you. Ha, Ha. Seriously, they said there are no openings for seasonal positions right now but he did describe some of the jobs that are available based on our requests of no cleaning bathrooms or serving food and we want to car pool which means same days and about the same hours. The jobs he described are mostly usher type positions or helping get characters ready for their parts. They are in the process of moving people - get them in, entertain them and get them out. We did say we could work any days, any times so that may help. They expect you to work 6-8 weeks and then you are considered, sort of, beyond your probation and they could be more flexible. I think what they do is interview, critique and evaluate and then try to decide how we could fit in, if we do fit in. There were several other couples about our age applying as well so I am sure they get a lot of people interested. We hope we get in but if we don't it will not break our hearts.
What a great treat to get fresh orange and tangerine juice, oranges, grapefruit and tangerines. They are all over this area. We will certainly get our fill.
